Longhorns' Steve Sarkisian Reveals Positive Update on WR Isaiah Neyor

Texas Longhorns receiver Isaiah Neyor had his anticipated arrival in Austin get put on hold last season.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Considering the talent that's arrived in the Texas Longhorns receiving room this offseason, it's understandable if some fans may have forgotten about a guy who didn't take a single snap last season.

But after tearing his ACL prior to the start of last season, receiver Isaiah Neyor now appears ready to give fans a reason to take notice.

"He’s fully cleared, ready to go," Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said Tuesday. "He’s been running well this summer. I think he’s in a really good frame of mind.”

The Fort Worth native had his anticipated arrival in Austin get put on hold last season. The former Wyoming transfer excited fans with his play-making ability in last year's spring game, but quickly became an afterthought as rehabbed his way back throughout the year.

This offseason, additions like Georgia transfer A.D. Mitchell and five-star freshman Johntay Cook brought even more talent to a receiving room that already features Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington and Casey Cain, who showed nice flashes last season. Neyor clearly has some competition to work against, but his previous production before arriving in Austin shows he can be a lethal weapon for the offense.

During the 2021 season at Wyoming, Neyor was an efficient receiver that made the most of each touch he received in the offense. Despite just 44 catches for the season, which averages out to a little over three grabs per game, Neyor was tied for fifth in the country in receiving scores (12) and average yards per catch (20).

Neyor also had at least one catch of 30 or more yards in nine of 13 games that year. He also had a six-game scoring streak to close out the season, proving his ability to stay consistent in the red zone despite having a season-high single-game catch total of six.

Set to be back and healthy, he should give quarterback Quinn Ewers a big-body target down the field and in the red zone.
