Longhorns Make Final Cut for 2024 4-Star WR Jelani Watkins

In this story:
The Texas Longhorns are in the running for one of the top 2024 receiver prospects. Klein Forest (Houston) wideout Jelani Watkins has released his top four schools, and Texas has made the list.
The four-star receiver ranks as No. 22 at his position in the country out for the 2024 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.
Although only 5-9, Watkins has made his speed loudly known this past spring track season. With a 10.33 time in the 100 meters and a 20.39 time in the 200 meters, Watkins has caught the eyes of quite a bit of college recruiters and scouts.
The Longhorns have not and do not plan to slow down their recruiting effort. Even though Texas just recently officially landed three-star tight end Jordan Washington, securing the team its 12th recruiting commitment, Watkins is now high on their recruiting list. Texas has competition, however.
Watkins has also named Arkansas, LSU and Texas A&M in his top-four, and LSU seems to be the favorite at the moment.

Per 247Sports' crystal ball prediction, Watkins could be leaning LSU's direction, especially after he visited their campus during the last weekend in June. But of course, this is just a prediction.
The date for commitment decisions has not been set in stone yet, and while the Longhorns may not be the top choice at the moment, there is still time to lock in the four-star receiver.
