Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers 'Whole New Person' After Haircut

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers entered fall camp with a buzzcut after getting rid of his signature mullet.

It isn't uncommon for football players to band together and get a haircut heading into fall camp. In fact, buzz cuts are pretty common, it seems, among players who decide they want a new hairstyle before the kickoff of camp.

At Kansas State back in 2014, the freshmen were given haircuts by the older players as a form of welcoming them to college football. Just last season, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett was part of a group of Bulldogs who got buzzcuts. Coincidentally enough, if you ask Bulldog fans for their thoughts on Bennett with a buzzcut, they may tell you he played better with one.

Now you can add Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers to the list of players who got a new hairdo before the start of camp. The redshirt sophomore got rid of his famous mullet and is now rocking a buzzcut instead.

It is a much different look for Ewers after many grew accustomed to his mullet, but the new haircut has brought about even more changes if you were to ask tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders.

“His whole demeanor changed after he cut that mullet,” Sanders said of Ewers' new look. “I don’t know what it was about that mullet. Whatever he did after cutting that mullet, it’s like a whole new person. He went from a kid to an adult, and it shows.”

After a freshman season with ups and downs, expectations are high for Ewers and the Longhorns. The former highly-rated recruit, who skipped out on his senior year of high school to enroll at Ohio State in the summer of 2021 before transferring to Texas last offseason, had his moments last year.

The 20 snaps Ewers played against Alabama in Week 2 before exiting the field with a shoulder injury was one of his strongest showings, completing nine of his 12 passes for 134 yards. In contrast, the loss on the road to Oklahoma State was one of his worst.

Yet, growing pains are to be expected with young quarterbacks, especially for someone like Ewers, who didn't play his senior season of high school.

But with expectations of at least making the Big 12 title game, Longhorn fans expect big things from Ewers this season. And as for any good mojo that the buzzcut may bring Ewers ... time will tell.
