Texas Longhorns Ranked No. 3 In Final AP Poll Of The Season

The Texas Longhorns finished as the No. 3 team in the country following a season that saw them win the Big 12 and make it to the College Football Playoff.

The 2023 season for the Texas Longhorns was something that the fan base and the sport had been waiting to happen for over a decade.

Things finally fell into place under Steve Sarkisian, who has not only been recruiting and developing players at a high level, but also instilling a winning culture. The Longhorns finished the season 12-2, suffering losses to Oklahoma and eventual runner-up Washington, in the College Football Playoff.

However, Texas still won the Big 12 for what will be the final time as they are SEC bound, and they were at least able to make the playoff after years of coming nowhere close. Following the conclusion of the championship game on Monday evening, the AP Poll released their final rendition of the rankings for the season.

The Longhorns finished the season as the No. 3 team in the country behind both Michigan and Washington and ahead of programs like Alabama and Georgia.

While the season didn't end how they had hoped, Texas fans and those around the program finally saw the long-awaited progress that had been missing. For the past decade, Texas has seen wasted potential, losing cultures, and simply an inability to get themselves over the hump and back to the form that saw them contending.

They will have a tough schedule in 2024 with programs like Georgia, Michigan, and Oklahoma all on the schedule, but based on how this season went, this clearly is a program that is more than capable of competing with the other top powers.
