OFFICIAL: Texas Longhorns Sign 3-Star Defensive Lineman Alex January

Alex January could become the next great interior pass rusher for the Texas Longhorns beginning in 2024.

It might be December, but Texas Longhorns fans are thinking of January.

Alex January that is.

January officially signed his letter of intent to play for the Longhorns in 2024 as part of the first class that will spend its entirety of their carrers as members of the Southeastern Conference. Texas continues to build from within on the recruiting trail while sprinkling in proven commodites to strengthen the roster via the transfer portal .

January, a native of Ducanville (Texas), was listed the No. 45 defensive lineman, and the No. 70 player in Texas in the On3 Industry Ranking. He chose Texas over programs like LSU, Texas Tech, Florida State, SMU, and Georgia, among others.

A legend recruit, January took his time during the recruiting process to build a relationship with other program before meeting with Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns' staff. He visited multiple programs, including in-state rival Texas A&M before returning home to make a decision.

January has been a hard commit for the Longhorns since early July 2023. Duncanville went on to play win the Texas 6-A State Championship earlier this month over Houston's North Shore

A physical defensive tackle, January projects to be a two-gap player and should carve out a role as a three-tech for Pete Kwitkowski's defense beginning in 2024. There's also impeccable upside to his game as a pass rusher up the middle, similar to that of Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year T'Vondre Sweat.
