While much of the attention surrounding Texas' transfer portal class has been centered around their wide receiver additions, they did happen to add an elite pass rusher.

UTSA transfer Trey Moore was one of the more underrated adds of the offseason for a Texas team that made it to the College Football Playoff. He racked up a career-high 14 sacks, which was enough to give him the third most sacks in all of college football. His potential in Austin led to him being named one of Bleacher Report's top eight defensive stars in 2024.

David Kenyon of Bleacher Report raved about the 2023 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and what he brings, but did note that his role with the Longhorns may be a bit different.

"How exactly the Longhorns will utilize Moore is a fair question, and a deeper rotation than expected may limit his statistical upside. Still, offenses must be prepared to scheme around Moore," wrote Kenyon.

The Longhorns have long needed a dominant pass rusher off the edge, and whether that will be Moore, five-star freshman Colin Simmons, or a returner like Ethan Burke is to be determined. It is an extremely good problem to have for the Longhorns who will return Burke and Barryn Sorrell next season, and also have Justice Finkley waiting in the wings.

As a unit, Texas ranked t-No. 51 in the country last season in sacks, totaling 32 sacks as a team. They will need a major boost from their pass rush in order to contend in the SEC right away, as along with quarterback play, the pass rush is arguably the most important aspect when it comes to winning in the SEC.
