March Madness Predictions: Where do Longhorns Land after Kansas State Win?

Texas sits on the No. 2 seed line in the latest Joe Lunardi bracket.

With March Madness just over a month away, the Texas Longhorns are looking to climb the seed line.

The Longhorns are coming off their most impressive win on the season defeating No. 7 ranked Kansas State on Saturday. Texas is a No. 2 seed in bracketologist Joe Lunardi’s latest ESPN Bracketology. The bracket has the Longhorns facing No. 15 seed Eastern Washington from the Big Sky conference.

Entering the final month of the season The Longhorns have shown signs of how far they can go. Currently leading the Big 12 conference puts Texas on the inside track to possibly land down a No. 1 seed come March. Monday night is another crucial test as they travel to Lawerence to face the Jayhawks of Kansas.

The Big 12 conference has been the top league in all of college basketball. Lunardi’s bracket has eight teams in the field tying the Big Ten conference for most bids. Where they separate from the Big Ten however is having six teams inside the top four seed lines. No. 2 Kansas, No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Kansas State, No. 4 TCU, No. 4 Baylor, No. 4 Iowa State, No. 11 Oklahoma State, and No. 11 West Virginia all represent the Big 12 inside the top 16 overall seeds.

The Longhorns' schedule lightens up after Monday’s contest against No. 8 ranked Kansas. Texas will play West Virginia, at Texas Tech, and Oklahoma. After that slight trio of easier games, the Longhorns will begin one last gauntlet to finish their season. The final four games will be against the top four seeds in the conference and should determine who wins the Big 12 regular season crown.

Head coach Rodney Terry has done a tremendous job rallying the team behind him. Terry is 12-3 since taking over for Chris Beard and has the Longhorns sitting in first place in the best league of college basketball. Guards Marcus Carr, Sir' Jabari Rice, and forward Timmy Allen have led the charge during the stretch. All three are averaging 10.7 or more points on the season and have scored their way to an 8-2 conference record.

Eight games remain in the regular season and the Longhorns look to continue to improve their resume. Tonight at Kansas could help Texas ensure a regular season conference title in their chase for a No. 1 seed since their Final Four run in 2003.

As things stand right now Texas will be one of the favorites come March Madness.
