March Madness Predictions: Where Do Longhorns Land After Baylor Win?

The Texas Longhorns are looking to claim their highest seed in the NCAA Tournament since 2008.

The Texas Longhorns continue to tread on through their gauntlet of a schedule as January comes to a close.

As conference tournaments and March Madness both inch closer, the Longhorns, despite a few recent losses to elite programs, have solidified themselves as one of the best teams in the country and are looking to claim their highest seeding in the NCAA Tournament since 2008.

And based on Joe Lunardi's most recent ESPN Bracketology predictions, the Longhorns - after beating the No. 11 Baylor Bears 76-71 on Monday - are on the way to doing just that.

Texas is projected to be a No. 2 seed in the East Region of the bracket and would play 15th-seeded Eastern Washington, per the recent projections.

This would mark the first time the Longhorns have been seeded as high as No. 2 since Rick Barnes and D.J. Augustin led Texas to a 31-win season in 2008, the most wins in a single season in program history.

Other notable teams on Texas' side of the bracket include the top-seeded Tennessee Volunteers, the third-seeded Virginia Cavaliers, the fourth-seeded Iowa State Cyclones and the seventh-seeded Missouri Tigers.

The Longhorns could potentially stamp their name in the conversation to be a No. 1 seed if they're able to come out of their upcoming stretch unscathed in the standings. Of course, this will be easier said than done, as Texas will go on the road to face the No. 7 Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday before visiting the No. 8 Kansas Jayhawks on Monday.
