Former Longhorns F Greg Brown III Waived by Blazers

The high-flying Greg Brown III, formerly of the Texas Longhorns, will be looking for a new NBA team after being waived by the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday.

There are few things in sports more exhilarating than the NBA trade deadline, with the 2023 edition changing the landscape.

Former Texas Longhorns have been on the move to the west, with Kevin Durant being traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Phoenix Suns and Mo Bamba from the Orlando Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, it wasn't all good news for former Longhorns, as it was announced that Greg Brown III was being waived by the Portland Trail Blazers.

While Brown was only a Longhorn for one season, he was always an exciting player to watch due to his ability to pull out some game-breaking dunks. He averaged averaged 9.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game which earned him Big 12 All-Newcomer Team and Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors.

Brown was then drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans in the second round of the 2021 NBA draft with the No. 43 overall pick, and then traded to the Trail Blazers where he signed a three-year, $4.3 million rookie scale contract.

The former Longhorn appeared in 48 games as a Trail Blazer, starting in six. In those 48 games he averaged 4.7 points and 2.8 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game.
