Longhorns 2023 Signee Ron Holland Decommits from Program

The Texas Longhorns have been flooded with good news over the past few days, but now have to deal with another major and expected blow after five-star 2023 forward Ron Holland decommited from the program on Friday.

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns have gone through a whirlwind of emotion this offseason, with the past week certainly being a rollercoaster. But after riding high on recent good fortune, the program is hitting another unexpected bump in the road.

Texas 2023 signee Ron Holland announced Friday that he has decommitted from the program and will re-open his recruitment. The 2023 McDonald's All-American released a statement on social media, but left the door open on Texas saying it "will still be one of my top schools of choice."

This is a major gut punch for coach Rodney Terry and the rest of the program, as Holland had been committed to Texas since Nov. 5 and signed his National Letter of Intent on Nov. 11. He's the second five-star prospect to decommit from the team, as fellow 2023 signee A.J. Johnson did the same on April 13 in order to pursue professional opportunities.

The Longhorns now have zero high school commits in the class of 2023.

After Terry was officially hired as head coach, Holland doubled down on his commitment. The hire clearly had Holland's stamp of approval.

"I get to stay committed to that team," Holland said. "Me and AJ Johnson. We get to go try get us a national championship next year.”

The Longhorns have reloaded the roster with transfer commitments from Kadin Shedrick and Max Abmas along with getting star forward Dylan Disu to return. But the loss of Holland still stings to the bone for Texas.
