Longhorns Outside Hitter Madisen Skinner Named Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year

Junior outside hitter Madisen Skinner, redshirt senior middle blocker Asjia O’Neal, senior opposite hitter Molly Phillips and junior outside hitter Jenna Wenaas have been selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 team. With four players selected, the Texas volleyball program is leading the preseason team with more Longhorn representatives than any other.
The Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year selection was elected to Skinner who had an outstanding 2022 season with the Longhorns after freshly transferring from Kentucky.
With Skinner securing the Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year title, she helped Texas claim its 16th overall time the Longhorns have been given the award along with the fifth time in the last six years that a Longhorn was granted the title.
Skinner made a climb in the ranks as a Longhorn. In 2022 the star outside hitter was No. 4 in the league for kills per set at 3.66, No. 5 in points per set, recording 4.05, and No. 8 in the league with a .307 hitting percentage.
Needless to say, Skinner was a main aspect as to why the Longhorns ended the 2022 season with a 28-1 overall record, their sixth straight Big 12 volleyball title and national championship trophy held above their heads.
The 2023 season could serve as a chance for Skinner to be better than ever. With an already completed year under Texas volleyball head coach Jerritt Elliott under her belt, Skinner has an opportunity to improve an already established program in hopes of bringing home another national title.
