With an SEC move on the horizon, the Texas Longhorns are on a mission to win the Big 12 title in their final year win the conference.

That mission began Wednesday in Austin in the team's first practice of fall camp, and by all accounts, Steve Sarkisian was extremely impressed with his team's effort.

“The energy was really good out there today. I thought the guys came with an intent to work. I think you find out who’s really ready from a conditioning standpoint on that first day, and some guys that still need some work.”

Obviously, Day 1 is exactly that - Day 1. So the Longhorns still have a long way to go before they are in going to be ready to hit the field against the Rice Owls on September 2.

With that said, Texas also seems to have a renewed energy about the program that has been absent in recent years.

call it confidence, good culture or coaching, it doesn't matter.

The energy around the program is palpable. And that is a far cry from where things stood even at this time last year - much less in the Tom Herman or Charlie Strong eras.

Will that affect the product on the field? Only time will tell.

But given the talent in the locker room and the minds on the coaching staff, if the Longhorns are able to parlay the 'intent' that Sarkisian describes into their gameday efforts, the sky could be the limit for this year's group.
