8 Texas Football Coaches Receive Contract Extensions

Both of the Longhorns coordinators have received extensions through the 2024 season.

Steve Sarkisian's coaching staff won't be leaving Austin anytime soon.

The University of Texas Board of Regents approved eight one-year contract extensions for seven coaching assistants and Longhorns' head strength and conditioning coach Torre Becton. The seven coaches to receive extensions included: offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Kyle Flood, defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski, co-defensive coordinator, linebackers coach Jeff Choate, running backs coach Tashard Choice, safeties coach Blake Gideon, defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach Terry Joseph, and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee.

Becton received a one-year extension through the 2025 season. His salary will remain at $550,000.

Kwiatkowski, who has served as the Longhorns' defensive coordinator since Sarkisian's hiring in 2020, received a one-year extension through the 2025 season. His annual base salary will remain at $1.7 million. Flood, an essential voice on Texas' recruiting trail, agreed to terms on a two-year extension through 2026. His salary will expand by 6 percent, rising to $1.33 million in 2024 and $1.4 million in 2025.

Milwee, who spent last season developing projected 2022 starter Quinn Ewers, received a one-year extension that runs through February 2025. His annual base salary will increase by 13.3 percent, rising to $425,000 in 2023 and 2024.

Choate received a one-year extension that runs through February 2025. His annual base salary will increase by 8.7 percent, rising to $625,000 in 2023 and $675,000 in 2025.

Choice, Gideon and Joseph all received one-year extensions through February 2025. Choice's annual base salary will remain at $550,000. Gideon's annual salary will remain at $475,000. Joseph's base salary will remain at $800,000.

Since Sarkisian arrived on the Forty Acres, nine coaches and Becton have received at least one-year extensions. Last offseason, defensive line coach Bo Davis and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks received one-year extensions and a pay raise through February 2025.

The details of new pass game coordinator and receivers coach Chris Jackson's contract have yet to be released as of this time. Jackson, 47, previously coached with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022. He is set to replace Brennan Marion, who was hired to replace Bobby Petrino as UNLV's offensive coordinator this offseason.

The Longhorns will begin their allotted 15 spring football practices on March 22. The annual Orange-White game is scheduled to be played on April 23.
