Wyoming Vs. Texas Keys To The Week 3 Matchup

In this story:
While the Wyoming Cowboys' offense on paper seems like no match for a Quinn Ewers-led Texas Longhorn offense, defenses can make or break a ball game.
The Cowboys have made quite a few bowl game appearances within the past few years. One of the main reasons for their consistent eligibility has been the Cowboys' defense, in response to the lack of productivity of their offense.
With a healthy quarterback in Ewers who impresses the Texas fan base across the board, the Cowboy's strong defense matched up against the Longhorns' "all gas, no breaks" offense will be a nail-biter.
Here's what both the Longhorns and the Cowboys will need to accomplish if they want to end Week 3 with a win on their record.
Texas wins if...
...it defends the territory on Cowboy's third down attempts.
So far this season, the Cowboys only completed 43.48 percent of their third-down conversions.
With incumbent Cowboys' quarterback Andrew Peasley only having a pass completion rate of 58 percent in the first two games of the season and an unreliable throwing arm, Wyoming will most likely turn to a backfield rusher for the do-or-die third down plays.
The Longhorns would have analyzed Wyoming's film, meaning Texas would already be quick to understand the inconsistency in the Cowboys' passing game. That would bring the predictability of Wyoming's third-down conversion plays up, allowing the Longhorns to cease Wyoming's offense.
Wyoming wins if...
...it has a pass completion rate of 60 percent.
The name of the Cowboys' game mainly relies in the hands of the running game and defensive control. However, if all comes crashing down, Peasley will be required to throw the football.
In 2022, Wyoming upheld a record of 4-1 when 60 percent of its passes were complete and 7-2 when hitting 45 percent or more of its passes. Anything less than 45 percent, the Cowboys were 0-4 - numbers don't lie.
The Longhorns will be expecting more of a running back-centered offense around Sam Scott who is Wyoming's top rusher this year after the dismissal of the Cowboys' leading running back last season Titus Swen.
Texas may not know what hit it if Peasley begins to show more consistency and accuracy in his passing game at DKR.
