According to a report from The Field of 68's Jeff Goodman on Sunday afternoon, former three-year UNC basketball playmaker Jeff McInnis is heading to College of Charleston to serve as an assistant under the Cougars' new leader in recent four-year Louisville head coach Chris Mack.

Earlier this week, the 54-year-old Mack accepted the job as head coach in Charleston following his two-year hiatus after getting the boot at Louisville.

Meanwhile, the hiring of McInnis marks the first college coaching gig for the 49-year-old. But he has loads of experience in helping to developing prospects from the Carolinas, so chances are he'll have an immediate impact as a recruiter for Mack's Cougars.

As Goodman noted, McInnis founded the Team Charlotte AAU organization. And for three years beginning in 2019, he was the head coach at Combine Academy in Lincolnton, N.C.

Starring alongside the likes of Jerry Stackhouse, Rasheed Wallace, Antawn Jamison, and Vince Carter as an electrifying Tar Heel in the mid-1990s, Jeff McInnis averaged 11.3 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game en route to becoming a two-time All-ACC selection (Third Team as a sophomore in 1994-95 and Second Team in 1995-96) and reaching one Final Four (1995).

Despite not coming off the board until the second round of the 1996 NBA Draft, McInnis carved out an 11-year stay in the league as a journeyman floor general, averaging 9.4 points and 4.4 dimes for his pro career.
