Ex-UNC Basketball Player Dontrez Styles Flourishing With Hoyas

Dontrez Styles never scored double-digit points in a game during his two seasons as a UNC basketball player. Since transferring from the Tar Heels in April, he's done so four times in his first campaign with Georgetown.

In fact, through five outings as a full-time starter, Styles has scored at least 15 points four times.

On Sunday, the 6-foot-6 wing from Kinston, N.C., was on the floor for all but one minute of Georgetown's 88-83 home overtime win over American. Styles posted 22 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. He shot 8-for-18 from the field, 1-for-6 beyond the arc, and 5-for-6 at the line.

One night earlier, in an 83-72 home win over Mount St. Mary's, the 21-year-old Dontrez Styles tallied a career-high 26 points, shooting 3-for-6 from deep while adding eight rebounds and four assists across his 38 minutes of action.

He didn't commit a turnover in either of those past two outings.

Under first-year Georgetown head coach Ed Cooley, he's averaged 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 33.6 minutes per game. He's shot 46.8 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from three on 5.0 attempts per contest, and 73.9 percent at the charity stripe.

Note that Styles never averaged over six minutes per game while playing for UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis.

Styles and the Hoyas (3-2) now have five days to prepare for a home game against Jackson State on Saturday at noon ET.
