Former UNC Basketball Forward Flirts With Triple-Double in Greensboro

UNC basketball's Leaky Black could be the main attraction for his G League squad.

It's been a week of firsts for UNC basketball alum Leaky Black. On Sunday, he recorded his first points in the NBA.

Then, on Friday night, the 24-year-old Charlotte Hornets rookie from Concord, N.C., made his G League debut with the Greensboro Swarm.

And it's safe to say that Black, who went undrafted this summer but landed on a two-way contract with the Hornets, impressed his teammates, coaches, and fans in Greensboro (just an hour's drive from his hometown outside Charlotte).

In a 108-82 home win over the Raptors 905, the versatile wing came up two assists shy of a triple-double. He finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, two steals, zero turnovers, and two fouls while shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 2-for-2 at the foul line across his 28 minutes off the bench.

Leaky Black has played three NBA games for the Hornets (3-8) thus far, totaling five points, two rebounds, one assist, and two blocks across his 12 minutes of action.

For now, chances are the former five-year UNC basketball team-first treasure (a four-year starter for the Tar Heels) will spend most of his time developing his professional skill set as a regular contributor for the Swarm, who face the Raptors 905 again in Greensboro on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.

They are near the bottom of the G League standings with their early 1-3 record.

It may be no coincidence that their lone victory coincided with Leaky Black's debut with the team.
