RJ Davis tallied a game-high 25 points in Friday night's 72-65 win over No. 4 seed Pitt, propelling the No. 1 seed Tar Heels to a battle against No. 10 seed NC State for the ACC Tournament crown at 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday. It wasn't the ACC Player of the Year's best shooting effort. Nevertheless, it affected the UNC basketball history books.

By finishing 3-for-10 beyond the arc, the 22-year-old senior guard bumped his total 3-point makes for the season to 102, now only three shy of the program record that Justin Jackson set on the way to the 2016-17 UNC squad winning the Tar Heels' most recent NCAA title.

Barring injury or an un-Davis-like extreme cold streak, it's only a matter of time — perhaps as soon as the meeting with the Wolfpack, a chance for the Tar Heels to improve to a combined 5-0 this season versus rivals NC State and Duke — until he owns the record and leaves Jackson's mark in the dust.

Meanwhile, via his performance against Pitt, RJ Davis leapfrogged Larry Miller on the UNC program's all-time scoring list and became only the eighth Tar Heel in history to join the 2,000-point club. His 2,000 points on the dot leave him potentially only one outing away from passing No. 7 Charlie Scott (2,007) and No. 6 Al Wood (2,015).

Fifth-year UNC basketball center Armando Bacot, currently No. 3 on the list with his 2,272 career points, can surpass No. 2 Phil Ford (2,290) with 19 points or more against NC State.

Bacot scored 19 against Pitt.
