Entering the season, your USC Trojans set out to finish what they started last year. They came so close to reaching the College Football Playoff last season, so they feel as if they have some unfinished business to attend to.

Through the first few games of the year, USC has looked the part of a title contender, but they have also seen an easy schedule. The tougher parts of their season are coming, and the Trojans will need to prove that they belong with the other elite teams.

Scott Wolf of InsideUSC broke things down about the Trojans schedule the rest of the way.

“But the schedule has an odd look to it because the five best teams — Notre Dame, Utah, Washington, Oregon and UCLA — come in the final six games. Maybe it matters because a late loss hurts more for College Football Playoff purposes.”

Unfortunately, one loss in a college football season can make or break the year for a team. It’s just how the process works, fair or not. So the Trojans will need to put things together and save their best for last.

“But it created an unbalanced schedule that will either see USC successfully run the gauntlet or you could get a situation where USC loses an extra game simply from the grueling nature of the second half of the season.”

Their first real test comes up in two weeks when they are supposed to head to Boulder for a matchup with the Colorado Buffalos. Colorado has shot up the rankings this season, and many are on the hype train with new head coach Deion Sanders leading the charge.

They would love nothing more than to knock USC off, so the Trojans will need to make sure that they don’t overlook the Buffalos at all. In fact, they can’t afford to overlook any team on the schedule, because they have to stay undefeated if they want to make the College Football Playoff.

Each week is a new challenge for the Trojans, so all they can do is take it one at a time. If they don’t, they could find themselves looking back, and wondering what happened.
