Kliff Kingsbury to USC as senior offensive analyst: Report

Kingsbury will have an opportunity to coach Caleb Williams as he prepares for the 2024 NFL Draft

USC football is adding an offensive guru to its coaching ranks.

Kliff Kingsbury has been hired to coach the Trojans' quarterbacks this upcoming season as a senior offensive analyst, according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero

On Tuesday, USC made the move official.

"We're excited to officially welcome Kliff to our coaching staff and add another outstanding football mind to our program," USC head coach Lincoln Riley said in a release.

Kingsbury was head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL for the past four seasons before being fired in January. Prior to accepting the Cardinals head coaching job, Kingsbury was hired by former USC head coach Clay Helton as the team's offensive coordinator in December of 2018. Kingsbury never ended up coaching a game with the Trojans program due to resigning to take the Cardinals job a month after accepting the OC position.

Kingsbury has worked with a number of high-profile quarterbacks in his time as a college coach. He helped push Case Keenum to a record-breaking season as Houston's co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2011. Kingsbury also worked with Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel as Texas A&M's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2012. As head coach at Texas Tech, Kingsbury aided in the development of NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes from 2014-16.

And now he'll get the chance to work with another big-time QB and Heisman winner in Caleb Williams.

"A big part of Kingsbury’s role will include game-planning, watching film with coach Lincoln Riley and being part of quarterback meetings," a source told the Athletic regarding USC's new coaching addition.

As a player, Kingsbury played college football at Texas Tech under Spike Dykes and Mike Leach. Riley also played at Texas Tech, but the two never overlapped as players.

Kingsbury was selected in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He bounced around the NFL signing with five teams in his career. Kingsbury also played in NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League.
