USC Football: Broadcast Reveals Alarming Caleb Williams Statistics

A troubling trend.

After your USC Trojans' unfortunate 34-32 loss to the No. 14 Utah Utes on Saturday night, their College Football Playoff hopes are all but extinguished.

There isn't much to look forward to for the Trojans, either, who may also find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to playing for the Pac-12 Championship, as Washington, Oregon, and Utah now all have stronger cases than USC.

5-2 UCLA doesn't look too shabby either, as they will only be facing one more ranked opponent this season: USC on November 18th.

The Trojans, meanwhile, have yet to tackle perhaps the toughest part of their schedule, with matchups against Washington, Oregon, and UCLA all happening in a row.

While the 2023 season can already be considered an underwhelming disappointment, one of the bigger takeaways is how poorly the Trojans have performed against good teams in general in the Lincoln Riley era.

As per the broadcast on Saturday night, here's a look at a graphic that tells a concerning story about a trend that the Trojans have been on.

Evidently, former Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams has been woeful against Top 25 opponents, sitting with a completion percentage of 51.4% and averaging 54% of the passing yardage that he does against unranked opponents.

His awful production in the touchdown department is even more confusing, as Williams has a 1:1 TD:INT ratio and has just six touchdowns in nearly as many games.

The Trojans are now 4-5 against opponents ranked at the time of their meeting but only 2-5 against teams that finished the season ranked. That's an awful record.

Caleb's poor performances are definitely correlated with the team's output, as given the team's horrific defense, they depend heavily on Williams to anchor the offense and play hero ball to get them to where they need to be.

Unfortunately, that isn't all possible against great defenses that many of the Top 25 spots, leading 5 of USC's seven opponents to run right over them.
