USC Football: Caleb Williams Breaks Down His Intriguing Pregame Ritual

Williams spoke on his diet and habits before taking the field on Saturdays.

Most athletes have a routine before every game. LeBron James has his chalk clap performed at the scoring table before taking the court. Michael Jordan wore his University of North Carolina shorts underneath his Chicago Bulls uniform for every game, hoping that the 1982 national championship would rub off on his career in Chicago (it did).

USC quarterback Caleb Williams is no exception. On a recent episode of his podcast "Almost Pro: USC Football," Williams detailed his pregame ritual, from the night before the game to right before the coin flip.

Williams starts by loading up on snacks.

"I basically do two of everything," Williams said. "I get two Uncrustables, two ham and cheese sandwiches — this is the night before the game — I get two DripDrops, I get two Popcorner chips, I get one tart cherry juice."

From there, Williams takes time to relax before going over his plays and notes from the week of practice, making sure that he is on top of his game from a mental standpoint.

Williams gets a lift in the next morning with the Trojans' strength and conditioning coach before heading over to the stadium.

It isn't until the coin toss that Williams finishes his day of pregame rituals.

"Right before we go out, before coin flip, I go eat some Trollis, most of the time at least, if they have Sour Patch Kids maybe ... and then I'll go listen to John Legend "Ordinary People" before we go whup up on some people."

Whatever Williams is doing, it seems to be working. The Trojan quarterback won the Heisman last season and is already off to a hot start in 2023, throwing for nine touchdowns and 597 yards between two games.

The Trojans face off against Stanford on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. PDT.
