Anything for the team, right?

The 2023 college football season was a tough one for your USC Trojans, and it saw them completely underperform from expectations. They finished the year with a record of 7-5 and now will wait to see which bowl game they will head to.

Head coach Lincoln Riley knows that it was a tough year all around, and he wants to do whatever it takes to get them back on track. This would even mean him stepping down from calling plays for the Trojans if he had to.

Riley spoke about whether or not he would ever give up play-calling duties for the Trojans at some point.

"There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to do what’s right for the program. I would never take anything off the table. So that’s something I’ve thought about from time to time. That’s also a piece of the puzzle in terms of who you hire, the other staff members that you have, where the program is at at certain points. There’s nothing I would say, “Well, I’m just not going to do that because I don’t want to do that.” Everything for me is like, “What’s going to make USC better?” If I ever felt like that was, I’d do it in a heartbeat.

Per Ryan Kartje of The Los Angeles Times

Riley is likely feeling the pressure that comes from being the head coach at USC, and he knows that they can't have another underwhelming season. He was brought in to return the Trojans to national prominence, and he hasn't done that yet.

With the program entering the Big Ten next season, the expectations are even higher. They will be competing with some of the best teams in the country, and mediocrity won't fly any longer.
