In this story:

The USC Trojans football team is set to find themselves a new defensive coordinator after they let go of former coordinator Alex Grinch weeks ago. The Trojans defense underperformed once again this year, despite the team feeling that they addressed the issue.

It cost them another season with a strong offensive attack, and now they are searching for answers. USC can't afford another wasted year under head coach Lincoln Riley, so this hire could be extremely critical to his future with the program.

The Trojans are expected to make a significant hire for the position, but it remains to be seen who fits the bill. They have a real issue, and getting the right personnel into place should help going forward.

Riley provided some context on the search, but it was more of the same bland words fans have come to expect.

The Trojans will be heading to the Big-10 next year, and the move could help them land some strong defensive talent. They will be able to sell prospective prospects on playing in some of the biggest games that college football has to offer while also residing in Southern California.

It's almost cheating in terms of recruitment, but the Trojans are set up well for success moving forward. Even if this season was a dud, they should be much better in the future if they can fix their defense problems.

However, unless the Trojans make a real effort to change the way they have been under Riley in his first two seasons, we will see more of the same. And as they head into the Big-10 next year, it could get ugly very fast if they operate in the same manner.
