USC Football: Linebacker Shane Lee Shares Amusing Offensive Encounter with OL

This anecdote might be more significant than you'd think...

There are always little nuggets of information made available throughout the college football season that'll make you stop and go, "Hmmm."

Sometimes, said information isn't even meant to be all that interesting. However, unintended meaning may lead to some fascinating conclusions.

In the case of USC LB Shane Lee, he probably didn't mean anything substantial from the quote listed below. It was surely just an observation of his offensive line teammates rooted in the realm of praise. With that said, it did open up something quite interesting from a conversation standpoint:

The quote itself is rather innocuous in nature. Lee is essentially praising the Trojans' offensive line for the work it put in throughout the offseason. It also speaks to the group's togetherness and brotherhood, which seemingly grew more robust due to more time spent with one another.

However, some perspective must be kept here. Lee transferred last season to USC from Alabama. With all respect to Georgia, the Crimson Tide have been the class of College Football under Nick Saban ever since he took over in 2007.

When Lee signed with the Crimson Tide as a highly-touted prospect out of Baltimore, he played alongside the likes of Landon Dickerson, Alex Leatherwood, Jedrick Wills Jr., and Evan Neal (all NFL players).

USC Rushing Totals (though two games):

Game 1 (vs SJSU): 160 rushing yards on 34 touches ; 3 TDs; 4.7 YPC; 2.0 sacks allowed

Game 2 (vs Nevada): 215 yards on 20 touches; 2 TDs; 10.8 YPC; 1.0 sacks allowed

"I've never seen anything like that anywhere I've been." This quote -- while simple and straightforward -- has to excite USC's fan base. Whether Lee intended to or not, he favorably compared the Trojans' group to the one in Alabama, which sustained ridiculous success.

As the stats indicate above, USC's offensive line group has been on a roll thus far to begin the season. The unit is not only protecting Caleb Williams, but it's also opening up gigantic run lanes for the fleet of talented running backs on the roster.
