Entering the new college football season, many are picking the USC Trojans to do some damage. After just missing out on the College Football Playoff a season ago, the Trojans have some unfinished business to attend to this season. It will be the school's final season in the PAC-12 conference before they move over to the Big-10, so winning a title would be an incredible send-off.

One reason as to why the Trojans are such a trendy pick is their quarterback unit. Led by reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, the Trojans have the best quarterback in the county. But as a whole, the USC unit comes in second in terms of position groups across the county, according to college football writer Brad Crawford of 247 Sports.

"USC's depth at the position in totality is superior to others this season, but Texas and LSU are close. You start with college football's best player at the top of the chart and work your way down to a former four-star the Trojans are comfortable with in case Williams goes down. Then you have a 2023 five-star signee numerous programs wanted. Obviously, Lincoln Riley's plan is for Williams' encore performance coming off his Heisman to be equally potent. This team is College Football Playoff National Championship-caliber as long as No. 13 stays upright and shines the way everyone expects him to."

Crawford only ranks the Ohio State wide receivers as a better overall unit. And in all honesty, I'd agree. The Buckeyes wideouts are a vastly superior group to all other school's position groups, but this Trojans quarterback room comes close.

Just having Williams allows the Trojans to be instant title contenders; he's that good. But they also have some depth with Malachi Nelson and Miller Moss. Every football team needs quality depth, even behind-stat quarterbacks, and the Trojans have that.

Head coach Lincoln Riley understands this and made sure his team had a plan in place in case Williams ever gets hurt. Hopefully, he can stay on the field and help lead the Trojans back to the top of the mountain this season!
