USC Football: Stanford Head Coach Raves About Caleb Williams' Skill Set

In this story:
USC quarterback Caleb Williams is the engine that makes the Trojans go. He is the face of the team and one of the main reasons why USC is being picked by so many to possibly get into the College Football Playoff.
The reigning Heisman Trophy winner returned to USC this season with some unfinished business to attend to, as he wants to win a National Championship. The Trojans have some lofty goals this season, but they know it won’t be easy.
Teams aren’t going to back down from them, but there is a level of respect for Williams from his opponents. Prior to the Trojans game against the Stanford Cardinal, head coach Troy Taylor had some praise for the USC signal-caller.
“Really talented. The thing that, when you watch him on tape, he’s really hard to get on the ground. I mean, he’s a difficult tackle. So he extends plays and then obviously he has the ability to make every throw. So when you’re trying to cover for eight, nine seconds, it makes it difficult. Very talented guy.”

Williams will give the Cardinal all sorts of trouble on Saturday night. His ability to read the field, and make a split-second decision is second to none, and it has allowed him much success during his college playing days.
He continues to get better each year he has played and hasn’t skipped a beat this season so far. Taylor added to his comments about the struggles to play against Williams.
“You’ve got to try and keep him in the pocket. That’s one of those things it’s really easy to say, but hard to achieve. I mean, he’s good in the pocket. So you’ve got to get pressure on him, but try and contain him. The elongated plays are really difficult to cover just because it’s difficult to cover guys for that long. But he’ll hurt you in the pocket as well. So he’s just a player that doesn’t really have any weaknesses. And he’s got exceptional talent around him, especially at the wide receiver spot. The slot wide receivers are really talented. So you’ve got to cover for a long time and you’ve got to try and contain a guy that is a great thrower and a great runner.”

Stanford will need to put up a ton of points if they want to take down the Trojans. It’s unlikely that their defense will be able to contain Williams and the offense. But overall, it should be a good game, and USC can't afford to take the Cardinal for granted.
