USC Football: Trojans Center Highlights What Makes Caleb Williams An Ultra-Competitor

The reigning Heisman trophy winner is the ultimate competitor

The USC Trojans aren't having the best of seasons. This 2023 season turned ugly quickly after two losses in October and their loss last week to the No. 5-ranked Washington Huskies.

The 7-3 Trojans' shot at a Pac-12 title, and the College Football Playoff is all but gone; however, the Trojans are still no pushover, thanks to their Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Caleb Williams.

Williams came to USC with one goal: to win a national championship. Even though that won't happen, he still competes at the highest level. Trojans center Justin Dedich spoke about his QB's competitive spirit and called him an 'ultra-competitor,' per Thuc Nhi Nguyen of The Los Angeles Times

“Caleb’s one of those dudes, he just hates losing, but [I] never question one doubt when the game starts, he’s ready to go,” center Justin Dedich said. “He’s an ultra-competitor.”

Williams is not only a great player, that is evident, but what makes him great is his ultimate competitiveness. The 21-year-old displays that competitiveness each snap, which gets contagious with his teammates.

He could easily pack it up and start thinking about the NFL Draft for the remainder of the season, but that's not his personality. He wants to be out there for his teammates and collect as many wins as possible while he is a Trojan.

It's easy to show that when you're winning, but when you are down, that tells you a lot more about the person. Williams has shown that he cares and still gives his all throughout the mess that USC has gotten into.

Next up for the Trojans, they'll be facing off against No. 6-ranked Oregon Ducks tonight, at the Autzen Stadium in Eugene. They game is slated to tip off at 7:30 p.m. PT.
