USC Football: Trojans Defensive Lineman Breaks Silence Following Week 8 Loss

Bear's costly penalty played a big role in the Trojans loss to Utah

The USC Trojans championship hopes for the 2023 season have been put to bed. The Trojans suffered their second straight loss last night to the Utah Utes, dropping their record to 6-2 and plummeting in the AP Poll to 24th.

This season has turned upside down for the Trojans, and yesterday's loss might've been the final blow. The Trojans came from behind against Utah, taking a one-point lead with less than two minutes left on the clock.

However, the defense needed to make a stop, and we all know how that went; but, the costly penalty called on Trojans transfer defensive star bear Alexander played a massive role in Utah's drive down the field that led to their game-winning field goal.

On third and nine with 1:16 left on the clock, the Trojans had the Utes on their own 25-yard line, and with the Utes QB Bryson Barnes dropping back, he threw the ball, and Alexander committed a roughing the passer that cost the Trojans 15 yards and kept the drive going.

Bear was visibly emotional on the sideline after the play and took to social media to apologize to fans for his costly foul.

The star defensive tackle has been solid for the Trojans, recording 15 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two passes defended.

However, there's no denying the penalty cost USC big time, and Alexander knew it. The USC defense has struggled all season long, and with how things have gone this seaosn, they cannot allow second chances to the offense, or else they'll make the defense pay.

It's great to see Alexander take responsibility, and we hope he can learn from it and be better for his team.

He will get a chance to redeem himself this upcoming Saturday against the California Golden Bears.
