USC Football: Trojans Reportedly Trying To Poach DC From Pac-12 Rival

It doesn't sound like those interim defensive coordinators will stick around.

Your USC Trojans football program has had an absolutely brutal conclusion to its 2023 regular season. The Cardinal and Gold dropped five of its final six games as it limps towards a fairly insubstantial Las Vegas Bowl game, for which Heisman-winning quarterback Caleb Williams may not even play as he (probably) prepares for the 2024 NFL draft.

The team's defense has been a problem all year, not just from a recruitment perspective, but also in terms of sheer X's and O's on the field. Midseason, things got so egregious that USC head coach Lincoln Riley was eventually compelled to fire his friend Alex Grinch, whom he had brought over to his staff from their days on the Oklahoma sidelines. He was replaced with a pair of interim coordinators who continued to be equally underwhelming.

It appears USC athletic director Jennifer Cohen is keenly aware of that, and is moving swiftly to address the issue posthaste.

Per Jason Scheer of WildcatAuthority.com, the Trojans reportedly made a huge offer to Utah Utes defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley, who has long stewarded one of the best defenses in the Pac-12. We know USC likes spending money on its football coaches, as the team is currently paying Riley $110 million after swiping him from Oklahoma.
