Despite falling short of many fan and analyst expectations, Utah’s football team did deliver in certain areas throughout the 2023 season. One of these areas was the team’s defense.

Utah’s defense was as formidable as ever despite the unfortunate addition of what was seemingly a continuous stream of injuries.

The Utes’ defense was among the best in the country all season long. Even more, new defensive superstars like Jonah Elliss emerged and bullied teams weekly during the team’s 2023 campaign.

In the wake of a somewhat lackadaisical season, the Utes have seen their fair share of defensive turnaround in regards to players entering the transfer portal and declaring for the NFL Draft.

One of the team’s most affected groups has been the secondary. The exodus began as Cole Bishop and Sione Vaki, two of the team’s best defensive athletes, declared for the NFL Draft. It would continue as the Utes saw four defensive backs, including Jadon Pearson and Jocelyn Malaska, enter the transfer portal early in the cycle.

With the departure of Bishop and Vaki, the Utes had been yearning for a player with experience who might be able to fill in as a starting safety during the upcoming 2024 season. And if they can play their cards right, they might have just found one.

In a recent post on X, former New Mexico State safety Myles “Ghost” Rowser announced that he was extended an offer by the University of Utah.

Rowser, who played his first season in 2022 at Campbell College and earned FCS Freshman All-American honors, would be a big-time commitment for the Utes.

After one season with the Fighting Camels, Rowser transferred to FBS and played his 2023 season with the New Mexico State Aggies. In 2023, he put together a strong campaign, racking up 70 tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception.

Rowser was a four-star recruit in the 2022 class and chose Cambell (FCS) over blue blood programs such as Michigan. At 6’0 190 pounds, he also possesses the ability to play multiple defensive positions such as free safety and corner.

With multiple holes in their secondary in need of being filled, after departures from Bishop, Vaki, and starting corners JaTravis Broughton and Miles Battle; Rowser would be the perfect transfer portal pickup for the Utes.
