Utah Eyes Utah State Defensive Standout Devin Dye as Potential Transfer

In this story:
Late Tuesday night, Utah State transfer Devin Dye announced via X that he had received an official offer from the University of Utah.
Dye, a rising sophomore, played safety for the Utah State Aggies for a single season in 2023. Before attending Utah State, the former three-star recruit out of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, CA, spent two seasons at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA.
The San Diego native took a medical redshirt during his first year at JUCO (2021). In 2022, Dye would rack up 59 tackles, two tackles for a loss, and two interceptions. Moreover, his 2022 campaign included two double-digit tackle outings, with his best performance coming against Riverside College where he posted 13 tackles with one interception.
Dye’s tackling prowess would translate to the Power 4, as he was arguably one of the Aggies' best defensive players in 2023.

Dye was fourth on the team in total tackles (81), second in total interceptions (2), and tied second for most forced fumbles (1). Additionally, Dye led the team in pass deflections, swatting away seven throughout the season.
For his strong season, Dye was rewarded with a Mountain West All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Utah will have to fend off some competition if they want to snag the valuable in-state transfer. Currently, Dye also holds offers from Western Kentucky, Tulane, and Kansas. Devin’s brother, Jalen Dye, plays safety at Kansas.
The transfer safety would be a big-time commitment for the Utes if the team can land him. Thus far, Utah’s safety depth has been decimated in the early stages of the transfer and draft window.
Firstly, 2023 depth safeties Jadon Pearson and Darrien Stewart recently announced they’d be transferring from the school. Secondly, and perhaps most detrimental to the team’s defensive position group, both Sione Vaki and Cole Bishop, the Utes' two safety starters in 2023, have declared for the 2024 NFL draft.
Nevertheless, Dye would be a huge pickup for a Utes squad that’s desperate for some impactful transfers. At 6 '0, 185 pounds, Dye could be exactly what the Utes need patrolling the skies.
Fun fact, Dye is the son of 2005 World Series MVP, Jermaine Dye. The senior Dye was a two-time MLB All-Star, Silver Slugger, and Gold Glove winner, who has over 300 HRs in the Big Leagues.
