Can Vanderbilt baseball find itself in a hostile environment?

That has been and still is one of the pressing questions of the season for the Commodores. Vanderbilt hits the road for a Thursday to Saturday series at No. 25 Texas A&M. It goes into College Station on a five-game winning streak, but those wins came at home.

Now, Vanderbilt has to prove itself on the road. The Commodores have played two weekends in neutral sites in Arlington, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada and a series at Mississippi State. In those nine games, they have a 1-8 record.

“I think that’s a very fair question. Can this team win on the road? We’ll see, we’ll see. I’m interested in finding that answer out, too, as much as you guys are,” Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin said after the Commodores beat Belmont Tuesday night.

One thing that could play into Vanderbilt’s advantage going into the series against Texas A&M is that it has a full arsenal of its available pitchers going into the weekend. Freshman starting pitcher Connor Hamilton put on a clutch outing on the mound Tuesday night by throwing a complete game.

His 116 pitches meant that Vanderbilt did not have to use any other arms and now has everybody safe to use in a critical series on the road.

Last week’s sweep of Tennessee at home started to feel like Vanderbilt had turned a corner after a 14-12 start to the season. But a strong series on the road against Texas A&M this weekend would really vindicate and strengthen that feeling amongst the players and coaching staff.
