The first game of the series required clutch plays, elite pitching, and extra innings to determine a victor. Thanks to an explosion from the UVA offense, the rest of the weekend series was much less dramatic.

After using a six-run seventh inning to win 12-4 on Saturday, the Cavaliers followed that up with another offensive spectacle, registering 15 runs on 15 hits, including four doubles, a triple, and two home runs as No. 8 Virginia completed the series sweep over Florida State with a 15-4 victory on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Disharoon Park.

Freshman Jack O'Connor got the start for UVA and struggled a little bit early, as Florida State had two runners on base in each of the first two innings, but O'Connor worked himself out of the jam both times.

The UVA bats gave O'Connor some run support beginning in the bottom of the second as Casey Saucke doubled off the wall in left center and then Anthony Stephan brought him in with a double down the right field line.

After O'Connor retired the side on ten pitches in the top of the third, Virginia put the game away with a massive crooked number in the bottom half of the inning. Griff O'Ferrall and Ethan O'Donnell led off with back-to-back singles and that spelled the end of the afternoon for Florida State starter Jamie Arnold. Florida State brought in Doug Kirkland to face Jake Gelof, who proceeded to blast a three-run home run off the clubhouse in left center field.

UVA was far from done. Kyle Teel walked and Ethan Anderson singled and Stephan recorded his second and third RBI of the game with a base hit to right field. Kirkland hit Henry Godbout and walked Harrison Didawick and Florida State went again to its bullpen, bringing in Brennen Oxford to face the top of the Virginia lineup with the bases loaded. Griff O'Ferrall lined out to left field, but it was deep enough to bring in Stephan from third. Ethan O'Donnell and Jake Gelof followed that up with back-to-back RBI singles. By the end of the inning, Virginia had plated eight runs on seven hits to take a 9-0 lead.

O'Connor worked into the fifth inning and gave up a pair of RBI singles to the Seminoles before finishing the inning. Florida State added another run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Jordan Carrion off of Jacob Hodorovich. Virginia responded right away in the bottom of the sixth as Saucke and Stephan drew walks, advanced on a wild pitch, and Saucke scored on a Godbout groundout. Didawick brought in Stephan with a sacrifice fly and then Ethan O'Donnell hit an RBI double to make it 12-3.

UVA added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh on a home run from Ethan Anderson, an RBI triple from Harrison Didawick, and an RBI single from Luke Hanson. FSU scored in the top of the eighth on a solo homer by Cam Smith, but UVA freshman righty Cullen McKay finished off the final two innings with relative ease after that, capping Virginia's 15-4 victory.

Jake Gelof gets the game ball as he went 4 for 5 with four RBI and a run scored, but Ethan O'Donnell was also impressive with three hits, two RBI, and a run, as was Anthony Stephan, who was 2 for 2 with three RBI and two runs scored.

The win gives the Cavaliers their first ACC series sweep of the season and their first series sweep against Florida State since 2013.

Virginia improves to 7-2 in ACC play and 22-2 overall, matching its best start in program history through 24 games. The Cavaliers were 22-2 in 2013 and 2022.

UVA wraps up a six-game homestand on Tuesday at 5pm against Old Dominion at Disharoon Park.
