Virginia to Play in Jax College Baseball Classic to Open 2024 Season

Virginia will open the 2024 college baseball season by participating in the inaugural Jax College Baseball Classic on the weekend of February 23-25, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida. UVA will take on Wichita State on Friday, February 23rd, Iowa on Saturday, February 24th, and Auburn on Sunday, February 25th at 121 Financial Ballpark, the home of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.

Virginia is 4-9 all-time vs. Auburn and last played the Tigers in 2011, a 13-2 victory for the Cavaliers. UVA has never faced Iowa or Wichita State in baseball.

Auburn went 34-23-1 in 2023 and hosted the Auburn Regional as the No. 13 overall seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Iowa also qualified for the NCAA Tournament and turned in a 44-16 overall record in 2023. Wichita State went 30-25 last season and did not earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

121 Financial Ballpark, which was previously called Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, hosted the ACC Baseball Tournament from 2005-2008. UVA finished as the runner up at the ACC Baseball Tournament in 2005 and 2008. This will be Virginia's first trip to Jacksonville since then.
