Tony Bennett and the Virginia Cavaliers have their first verbal commitment for the 2024 recruiting class. Four-star power forward Jacob Cofie announced his commitment to UVA on Sunday night, choosing the Cavaliers over USC, Washington, and Ohio State.

"I ultimately chose Virginia because I felt it was the best school to develop me as a player and take my game to the next level," Cofie said in an interview with On3's Joe Tipton. "Also being coached by Tony Bennett would be an honor. I feel like there's room on the team for me to work hard and earn an opportunity to get minutes as a freshman. It felt like family when I went on my visit."

A 6'9", 225-pound power forward out of Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish, Washington, Cofie picked up an offer from Virginia on July 10th and included the Cavaliers when he released his top four on August 27th. Cofie took an official visit to UVA on September 8th and announced his commitment to the Wahoos a little over a week later.

A consensus four-star prospect across each of the major recruiting sites, Cofie is ranked the No. 81 overall player in the class of 2024 according to the 247Sports Composite as well as the No. 15-ranked power forward in the country and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Washington.

“I’m excited to call Virginia home all the way from Seattle," Cofie told On3. "I can’t wait to get on the floor and represent UVA and help us win another national championship. I see a championship in the near future.”

With Christian Bliss reclassifying to the class of 2023 and enrolling at Virginia this fall, Jacob Cofie is technically the first verbal commit for UVA's recruiting class of 2024. Some other top targets in this class for Virginia include five-star wing Kon Knueppel, four-star forward Matthew Hodge, and four-star forward David Punch. Each of those recruits have taken official visits or are planning to take official visits to UVA in September or October.
