Christmas came a few days early for Tony Elliott and the Cavaliers. Virginia made another big splash in the transfer portal on Friday as North Carolina wide receiver transfer Andre Greene Jr. announced his commitment to UVA on social media. Greene comes to Virginia with three years of eligibility remaining.

Tony Elliott and his coaching staff have started to make an exciting habit of bringing home Virginia natives through the transfer portal. Greene was a heralded four-star prospect coming out of high school. Playing for St. Christopher's School in Richmond, Virginia, Greene registered 85 catches for 1,456 yards and 17 touchdowns in his high school career. 247Sports rated Greene as the No. 16 wide receiver in the class of 2022, the No. 102 overall recruit in the country, and the No. 2 player in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Greene had a top three of Penn State, Clemson, and North Carolina and ultimately committed to the Tar Heels.

Greene didn't played much in Chapel Hill, appearing in 11 total games in his first two seasons. His snaps were limited and he tallied just five receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown. That touchdown was an impressive one, though, as he elevated and hauled in a jump ball from Drake Maye in the corner of the end zone against Oregon in the Holiday Bowl in 2022.

A 6'2" athletic wideout, Greene was heavily pursued in the transfer portal as soon as he entered on December 2nd and Tony Elliott and the Cavaliers were among the first to reach out. Greene took official visits to both Penn State and Virginia and UVA receivers coach Adam Mims visited him in Chapel Hill last week. Ultimately, the Cavaliers succeeded in bringing home another talented Virginia native through the transfer portal to bolster their receiving corps.

Looking to replace the production of the NFL-bound Malik Washington, who rewrote the UVA single-season receiving records in his lone season as a Cavalier, Virginia has now brought in two wide receivers from the transfer portal, both from notable football programs and both Virginia natives, as Greene joins Chris Tyree from Notre Dame.

Andre Greene Jr. is the sixth transfer commitment Virginia has picked up this offseason, joining Notre Dame wide receiver Chris Tyree, Akron linebacker Corey Thomas Jr., Harvard tight end Tyler Neville, Penn defensive back Kendren Smith, and UCF offensive lineman Drake Metcalf
