The Cavaliers have landed three verbal commits so far for their football recruiting class of 2024. All three have come from natives of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

John Rogers, a 6'5" tight end out of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, announced his commitment to Virginia in a social media post on Monday night.

At 6'5", 202 pounds, Rogers has played a lot of positions on the field throughout his career at Episcopal, including wide receiver and defensive end, but UVA offensive coordinator Des Kitchings has a vision for Rogers at tight end. Virginia extended an offer on April 19th after Kitchings came to Alexandria to visit with Rogers. Other programs who offered Rogers included Army, Navy, Ohio, Richmond, Furman, Old Dominion, Georgetown, and others.

Rogers took an unofficial visit to Virginia this spring and has an official visit set for the weekend of June 2nd through 4th, but he decided he didn't even need to take the official visit before announcing his commitment to the Cavaliers on Monday night.

UVA is getting a tremendous athlete in Rogers, who was an All-Interstate Athletic Conference selection as a defensive end as well as a standout wide receiver. Rogers is also a center fielder on the Episcopal baseball team. According to his Hudl page, Rogers runs a 4.56 40-yard dash.

John Rogers is the third verbal commit in the 2024 UVA football recruiting class, joining a pair of fellow Virginia natives in offensive lineman Benjamin York (Burke, VA) and athlete Ethan Minter (Chester, VA).

Rogers was also the second player to commit to Virginia on Monday, joining Clemson defensive back transfer Malcolm Greene, who is also a Virginia native.
