Virginia Tech loads the bases with one out, but fails to cash in once again. Treyson Hughes hit a ball into the left-center gap, but it was caught on the run.

Preston Crowl enters the game in relief of Brett Renfrow. He comes in and pitches a scoreless inning, getting an inning-ending double play.

Bottom of the 3rd

Virginia Tech gets two walks and a base hit, but fails to cash in, making two outs on the bases, including an inning-ending 1-6 double play. Rutgers leads 2-1

Rutgers reclaims the lead by way of a home run. Two-out, two strike pitch was blasted over the centerfield wall. Virginia Tech trails 2-1 heading to the bottom of the inning.

Ethan Ball answers the Rutgers run with a 407 foot homerun to tie it. Petrich and French reached behind him, but were unable to score.

Rutgers takes the lead with an unearned run as a result of a Treyson Hughes error in center field and a balk. Renfrow struck out two of three batters.
