Football game programs lately have been moving in the direction of newspapers, magazines and the Pac-12 Conference -- where they one served a huge purpose, they've become much harder to find in changing times.

Yet with all of the massive turnover on the University of Washington football roster, people are going to need something they can consult in order to identify all of the new guys soon to be running around Husky Stadium and not readily identifiable.

This week, the UW revealed the latest distribution of jersey numbers, beginning with the following five returning Huskies who requested new shirts: senior wide receiver Giles Jackson, who has switched from No. 0 to 5, the latter previously belonging to departed quarterback Dylan Morris, now at James Madison; redshirt freshman cornerback Leroy Bryant, who goes from 23 to 0, claiming what once belonged to corner Jaivion Green, now at Stanford; sophomore running back Tybo Rogers, who will shift from 20 to 4, pulling on a number worn by departed wide receiver Germie Bernard, now at Alabama; redshirt freshman wide receiver Keith Reynolds, who has swapped out 89 for 15, wearing a number that belonged to fellow receiver Taeshaun Lyons, now at Utah; and redshirt freshman offensive guard Kahlee Tafai, who now answers to 71 after dressing in 74 last season, reclaiming the old number for ex-Husky offensive guard Nate Kalepo, now at Mississippi.

Among the incoming transfers, Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers III will wear No. 7, which last season on offense belonged to his former SEC teammate and UW starting running back Dillon Johnson, and before that one-time quarterback Sam Huard, who had it in 2021 and 2022.

With big sleeves to fill, Incoming freshman quarterback Demaricus Davis will wear No. 9, a UW digit made highly visible the previous two seasons by Michael Penix Jr., who twice led the nation in passing, finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up and could be an NFL first-round draft pick next month.

Former Arizona running back Jonah Coleman has selected No. 1, which on offense last season belonged to the Huskies' All-America wide receiver Rome Odunze. Coleman wore No. 3 for coach Jedd Fisch in Tucson.

Freshman quarterback Demond Williams Jr. will wear No. 2, which was receiver Ja'Lynn Polk's number in 2023; Indiana transfer cornerback Jordan Shaw has chosen No. 3, previously belonging to nickelback Mishael Powell, now at Miami; and San Jose State linebacker transfer Bryun Parham has claimed No. 5, which was All-Pac-12 linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio's jersey last season

California wide receiver transfer Jeremiah Hunter will wear No. 6 and Arizona cornerback transfer Ephesians Prysock has claimed No. 7, respectively taking numbers previously worn by Richard Newton on offense and Dom Hampton on defense.

Among the other transfers, Montana State defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez has opted for No. 50, an idle number since Myles Murao transferred to San Diego State a year ago; newly arrived San Diego State offensive tackle Drew Azzopardi has selected No. 74, recently freed up by Tafai; Arizona edge rusher Isaiah Ward will wear No. 91, previously belonging to graduated defensive tackle Tuli Letuligasenoa; Arizona edge rusher Russell Davis II has claimed No. 99, formerly used by graduated defensive tackle Faatui Tuitele; and Kansas junior-college defensive tackle Bryce Butler has selected No. 92, an idle number.

In the amazing-how-this-worked-out department: Arizona linebacker transfer Anthony Ward, Isaiah's brother, has reclaimed No. 57, the same jersey he wore when he previously played for the Huskies in 2020 and 2021.

New freshmen arriving for spring football practice and their recently assigned numbers are safety Peyton Waters, No. 22; wide receiver Jason Robinson Jr., No. 23; running back Adam Mohammed, No. 24; linebacker Khmori House, No. 28; offensive tackle Paki Finau, No. 53; and tight end Decker DeGraaf, No. 86.
