3 Additional Standouts From Washington's Spring Preview

In this story:
The spring preview couldn't be highlighted by just five standouts. On a talented team that many believe is poised for a run at the College Football Playoff in 2023, there were a lot of players that made an impact on Saturday.
Before the big three, there are a few honorable mentions that also deserve recognition. One is offensive lineman Parker Brailsford. The redshirt freshman lined up all over the formation, including at left tackle, and is in line to be the backup for Matteo Mele at center.
The other is wide receiver Owen Coutts. A walk-on sophomore from Ballard High School, Couts is a 6-foot-4 former track athlete, who flashed at various points this spring. Playing time will be scarce at best for him, but if he keeps making plays with all of the other impressive receivers in the room, he's a name to keep an eye on.
Germie Bernard
Bernard's day got off to a hot start, making a highlight-reel tiptoe grab down the sidelines. But it was what the Michigan State transfer showed without the ball in his hands that really made him flash.
Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb moved the sophomore receiver all over the formation and clearly has a lot of different ideas on how to get the ball into his hands. Bernard is extremely physical at the catch point, blocks well and has all the makings of a future star.
Jacob Bandes
Starting with two deflections of Dylan Morris passes on the same series, Bandes had one of the best days of his career in a Husky uniform. He also supplied consistent pressure from all over the formation and looks like he could see an increased role in 2023.
The Huskies need to find a way to get more pressure from the interior, and Bandes could be a crucial piece in generating that pressure.
Jabbar Muhammad
Muhammad spent his entire spring under a trial by fire, mainly having to compete with one of the best receivers in the country in Rome Odunze. While he still lost a few battles during the scrimmage, he showed why he was a priority in the transfer portal for the coaching staff.
He's a very fluid mover and a sure tackler. The Oklahoma State transfer looks like he's settling into his role in the defense, and could be the lockdown corner the Huskies need.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
