The University of Washington football team continues to win every time out this season, now 10 games and counting, but only spins its wheels when it comes to the College Football Playoff rankings.

For the third consecutive week, the Huskies (10-0 overall, 7-0 Pac-12) landed in the No. 5 slot, which if it remained unchanged when the season ends would leave them one position out of the playoffs.

UW followers had held out hope this week the Huskies might leapfrog Florida State (10-0 overall, 8-0 ACC), which remained No. 4. The Huskies have wins over three teams in the CFP rankings in Oregon (6), Arizona (17) and Utah (22) and face No. 11 Oregon State on Saturday in Corvallis.

"I would have no problem putting them ahead of Florida State in the top four," ESPN broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit said. "The cool thing is if they keep winning football games they'll be where they want to be."

For now, the top four teams in the CFP rankings are Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and those aforementioned Seminoles.

Earlier in the week, Husky coach Kalen DeBoer, who won three NAIA titles at Sioux Falls, was asked if he saw championship signs in his UW team and he provided a low-key answer.

"They realize what's at stake and what it means and the great opportunity that they've put themselves in in doing what we've discussed — being 1-0 each and every week," DeBoer said of keeping his team focused on each opponent and not looking ahead. "We've been 1-0 10 times. Sooner or later you get to 11, you get to 12, as long as you take care of the week before..

"That's really trying to make it simple: go back to work, cut it loose and have some fun playing football, the game they love."
