In this story:

Ryan Grubb will move from University of Washington offensive coordinator to the Seattle Seahawks in the coaching same role, after a month-long vacation in Alabama.

It's just too bad he didn't have time to go surfing in the Gulf of Mexico or play golf with former Crimson Tide coaching giant Nick Saban and share in more of that Southern hospitality.

Instead, Grubb will return somewhat triumphantly to the Northwest, presumably having kept his Seattle house or condo or wherever he lived the past two years, and devise some more football magic.

While Grubb just can't seem to leave town for long, he remains one of more than a dozen former UW coaches who are offensive or defensive coordinators somewhere across the football landscape.

Let us count the once Husky-connected who are  currently calling the football shots somewhere, a list that could expand should Alabama choose former UW assistants JaMarcus Shephard and Nick Sheridan as its co-offensive coordinators to replace Grubb, which ESPN has reported could happen.

UW-CONNECTED COORDINATORS

Junior Adams — The one-time UW wide-receivers coach (2019-21) now serves as a co-offensive coordinator at Oregon.

Duane Akina — The former UW quarterback and Warren Moon back-up (1975-78) recently was named defensive coordinator for the Arizona coaching staff taking over for Jedd Fisch.

Ryan Grubb — He spent two seasons as Kalen DeBoer's Husky offensive coordinator (2022-23), unsuccessfully tried to replace him as coach and will return home to call the offensive shots for the Seahawks.

Bush Hamdan — After two stints at the UW, as a quality coach and receivers coach (2015-16), and as offensive coordinator (2018-19), Hamdan served as offensive coordinator this past season for Boise State, his alma mater, and appears headed to Kentucky as offensive coordinator.

Keith Heyward — The former Husky defensive-backs coach (2012-13) recently was hired as Oregon State's defensive coordinator.

Kane Ione  — This one-time UW defensive analyst (2017-18) recently was hired as the Nevada defensive coordinator by coach Jeff Choate, a former UW assistant.

Pete Kwiatkowski — The one-time Husky defensive coordinator (2014-20) has served in the same capacity for ex-UW head coach Steve Sarkisian for the past three seasons at Texas.

Jimmy Lake — The one-time UW defensive-backs coach, co-defensive coordinator and head coach (2004 and 2014-21), twice fired from the program, is the new Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator.

Tosh Lopoi — The one-time Husky defensive-line coach (2012-13) has served as Oregon's defensive coordinator for the past two seasons.

Ikaika Malloe — The former UW safety and linebacker (1993-96), one-time graduate assistant (1997-00) and defensive-line and edge-rusher coach (2016-21) has been the UCLA defensive coordinator for a month, waiting to see how all that shakes out with coach Chip Kelly leaving.

Kirby Moore — The one-time Husky graduate assistant (2015-16) has served the past year as offensive coordinator at Missouri.

Johnny Nansen — This former Washington State linebacker coached the Husky defensive line, running backs and special teams (2009-13), spent the past two seasons as Jedd Fisch's defensive coordinator at Arizona and will share the Texas DC job with Pete Kwiatkowski.

Brent Pease — A Husky wide-receivers coach (2014-15), he became Montana's offensive coordinator this past season in his sixth year at the Big Sky school.

Eric Schmidt — After two years on DeBoer's staff as edge-rushers coach (2022-23), Schmidt was hired in December as San Diego State's defensive coordinator.

Peter Sirmon — The one-time Husky linebackers coach (2012-13) has coached at California for the past six seasons, five as a defensive coordinator.
