In this story:

Friday was a big day for Kalen DeBoer's squad. In front of a hoard of recruits that included four-star running back Jason Brown from O'Dea High School in Seattle, the University of Washington coaching staff put on a scrimmage to see what the team has learned at the halfway point of spring practice.

While members of the media were not able to watch the scrimmage, we were able to get a summary of its events from the best person possible, DeBoer.

DeBoer highlighted wide receivers Giles Jackson and Denzel Boston as two of the players that stood out over the course of the scrimmage. He also added that the defense had the upper hand early, and the offense found a groove later on in the day. One can assume that the defense got a boost from a surprise visitor...

Former Husky cornerback and first-round pick Marcus Peters showed up on campus for the first time since his Pro Day workout in 2015. It's no secret that Peters had issues with members of the previous regime, and it looks like the cornerback might be willing to spend more time around the program.

While the winners and losers were not revealed, DeBoer said that the game came down to the very last play.

It also sounds like the transfer portal players are really starting to fit in, and tight end Josh Cuevas has been turning some heads. "He had a couple of hits in Wednesday's mini scrimmage... that I'll be honest, I didn't see coming, where he knocked guys off their feet twice in one drive. I saw him as a guy that was a receiver and really smooth that way, but there's a physical piece to him that lights up that whole room."

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
