It didn't make much sense two weeks ago when University of Washington tight end Josh Cuevas entered the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-3, 239-pound junior from Los Angeles stood to become the leading candidate to start at his position, if not a focal player for the Jedd Fisch offense soon to be installed.

Everything is fully explained now — on Monday night, Cuevas revealed he is the latest UW player to follow former Husky coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama.

Cuevas will join former UW starting center Parker Brailsford, reserve wide receiver Germie Bernard, freshman quarterback Austin Mack and edge rusher recruit Noah Carter on the Crimson Tide roster, along with wide-receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard and his tight-ends position coach Nick Sheridan on DeBoer's staff.

A Cal Poly transfer, Cuevas played in all 15 games for the Huskies last season in a reserve role. Known as an exceptional blocker, he also caught 4 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown, showing himself to be a deep threat at times.

He hauled in a pair of  57-yarders, one coming against a Fisch-coached Arizona team in the Huskies' 31-24 victory in Tucson.

Cuevas is now headed for Tuscaloosa where the Crimson Tide have a wieldy eight tight ends on the roster.

Meantime, the Huskies are down to three scholarship tight ends in senior Quentin Moore, sophomore Ryan Otton and freshman Decker DeGraaf, looking for more bodies at this position before next season begins.
