Jedd Fisch doesn't have a defensive coaching staff in place at the University of Washington just yet, but that hasn't stopped the new football leader from adding players. Late Saturday night, he received a commitment from former San Jose State linebacker Bryun Parham.

The 5-foot-11, 212-pound Parham brings a veteran player who started 25 times for the Spartans and was an All-Mountain West honorable-mention selection this past season.

He'll help offset the Huskies' heavy linebacker graduation losses of first-team All-Pac-12 selection Edefuan Ulofoshio and one-time USC transfer Ralen Goforth. The newcomer has a season of eligibility left.

“This is a great feeling man," Parham told 247sports. "It’s like a dream to have this opportunity to go to a university like UW. It has been nothing but great since I’ve been here and I’m ready to come and take it all.”

Parham was on a UW visit when he informed Fisch he wanted to play for him this coming season. His commitment turned up a jsut few hours after the Huskies gained one from Arizona cornerback Ephesians Prysock, similarly an All-Pac-12 honorable-mention pick this past season for the Wildcats.

 

Parham comes off a season in which he led a 7-6 San Jose State team with 106 tackles, which gave him 199 in three seasons.

After playing his high school football in Southern California for Long Beach Poly at the height of the COVID pandemic, Parham was lightly recruited and ended up choosing San Jose State over Fresno State, Idaho State and Nevada. 

Yet Parham quickly showed he could play at a high level, becoming a Spartans starter midway through his freshman season who was known for his aggressive style.

In his career, he also has 11 tackles for loss, 6 pass break-ups, 5.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and an interception to go with all those tackles.

His linebackers coach at San Jose State was former Husky linebacker Scott White, who was a 31-game starter in 2004-06.

“They’re still filling out their defensive staff but I’m very comfortable here," Parham told 247sports.

The Huskies don't have a defensive coordinator or a linebacker coach, and it won't come from an Arizona coach because a number of them are staying put in Tucson, but they're stocking up on plenty of proven players to greet them.
