Falcons Re-Sign Former Husky OT Kaleb McGary

The 31st overall pick in 2018 has inked a three-year extension

The Atlanta Falcons are putting in a lot of effort to make sure their personnel can adequately support a young quarterback. After spending a 2022 third-round pick on Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder, he doesn't have to worry about what his offensive line is going to look like in the near future.

Along with Pro Bowl guard Chris Lindstrom, who was also picked by Atlanta in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Falcons signed former Washington offensive tackle Kaleb McGary to an extension. McGary's deal is for three years, and is worth a total of $34.5 million.

McGary was quietly one of the best tackles in the NFL in 2022, earning a grade of 86.6 from Pro Football Focus for his season. His run blocking graded at an elite 91.6, and he only allowed six sacks over the 1,051 snaps he played.

One of the most important traits in an offensive lineman is availiabilty, and McGary has always been available. Over his first four years in the league, he's only missed two games, and played every offensive snap for the Falcons in 2022.

He was the same kind of player at Washington, playing in all 12 games as a redshirt freshman, starting six, and never looking back. The two-time All-Pac-12 First Team player started every game for the Huskies in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

McGary looks to be a big part of the Falcons' rebuilding plans, as now they can spend the eighth overall pick on the defensive side of the ball. If he can continue to improve the way he has been over the last two seasons, he'll surely command another big contract.
