Former 4-Star Receiver Taeshaun Lyons Enters Transfer Portal
Wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons, the second-highest rated member of the University of Washington's recruiting class this past season, has entered the transfer portal, he posted on Friday on social media.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound freshman from Hayward, California, becomes the third Husky player to turn to the portal, joining sophomore safety Vince Nunley and junior quarterback Dylan Morris.
Lyons played for the Huskies in two games this season after being listed on the depth chart to open the year but didn't record any receptions. He'll be remembered for having a potential touchdown pass from Morris bounce off his hands in a 41-7 victory at Michigan State and be intercepted.
His departure leaves two wide receivers from the class of 2023 on the roster in former 4-star recruit Rashid Williams and former 3-star Keith Reynolds.
Lyons will have four years of eligibility remaining at his future school after choosing Washington over offers from Notre Dame, Miami, Penn State and others.
His departure also opens up a scholarship at wide receiver, which could be addressed rather quickly. After top transfer portal targets Chris Brazzell II and Tobias Merriweather committed to Tennessee and California, respectively, wide-receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard could turn to the high school ranks to add another pass-catcher.
According to his father, 4-star wide receiver Aaron Butler will announce his college decision on Friday and is choosing between Washington and Texas.
While the coaching staff is preparing for starting receivers Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan and Ja'Lynn Polk to forgo their remaining eligibility and declare for the NFL draft, Lyons' transfer also makes it easier for either Polk or McMillan to return if they decide to do so.
