Former UW Walk-On Tight End Griffin Waiss Re-Emerges at Stanford

In this story:
Griffin Waiss, who appeared in 27 games for the University of Washington football team as a walk-on tight end and a special-teams player, has resurfaced with Stanford, he disclosed on social media.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound junior returns to his native Bay Area, with his Bellarmine College Preparatory School in San Jose just 20 miles from the Stanford campus.
While it's unclear whether the Cardinal have put him on scholarship, Waiss is the second UW player to transfer to Stanford, joining junior cornerback Jaivion Green.
Waiss will be reunited with Bob Gregory, the Cardinal safeties coach and special-teams coordinator who was the UW linebackers coach, defensive coordinator and interim coach in 2021.
This offseason has been very good to Husky walk-on players from last season with linebacker Austin Harnetiaux welcomed by Nevada, presumably with a scholarship, and returning UW linebacker Drew Fowler, awarded a two-year scholarship by new coach Jedd Fisch.

An accomplished blocker, Waiss redshirted in 2021 for the Huskies as a non-scholarship player, then worked his way into playing time and appeared in every game for Kalen DeBoer's coaching staff except the Oregon State outing this past season. He caught a 21-yard pass against Colorado in 2022 for his only UW reception.
Waiss was a late comer to football, turning out for the first time as a high school player.
He was one of four Husky tight ends to leave the program following the CFP championship game against Michigan, with sixth-year seniors Jack Westover and Devin Culp using up their eligibility and putting their names in the NFL draft and junior Josh Cuevas transferring to Alabama.
