Geirean Hatchett wasn't done with college football when he recently said farewell to the University of Washington. In fact, the veteran offensive guard will be playing Sooner than later.

On Monday, the older of the two Hatchett brothers revealed he will transfer to Oklahoma, which offered him a scholarship — as did just about everyone — when he emerged as a highly regarded prospect coming out of Ferndale High School near the Canadian border.

Maybe a change of scenery will help him really launch his career and make him an NFL player.

At the UW, the 6-foot-4, 302-pound Hatchett spent four seasons trying to establish himself with the Jimmy Lake and Kalen DeBoer coaching staffs after having nearly every major school recruit him, with Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennesee, Texas A&M and USC among his other suitors.

Hatchett eventually appeared in 25 UW games over the past two seasons, starting for the first time for four outings at right offensive guard this past fall. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

A personal highlight had to be him getting into a game-day stance for the first time at Michigan State next to his little brother Landen, then a freshman center.

Landen Hatchett, over the weekend, seemed to indicate he will return to the Huskies, who are extremely low on veteran offensive linemen, after he entered the transfer portal.

In recent seasons, Geirean Hatchett was considered possibly the most versatile Husky offensive lineman with his ability to play all five positions up front. DeBoer's staff even used him as a blocking tight end on multiple occasions during the 2022 season.

He's considered an excellent run blocker who struggles at times with pass protection, hence his limited number of starting assignments. 

In this transient age of college football, Hatchett joins the long list of UW players who have packed up, left town and joined some of the nation's most visible programs after appearing in the CFP national championship game three weeks ago.

While Hatchett becomes a Sooner, UW center Parker Brailsford, wide receiver Germie Bernard and quarterback Austin Mack are headed for Alabama, offensive guards Nate Kalepo and Julius Buelow will line up for Mississippi, quarterback Dylan Morris will take snaps at James Madison, nickelback Mishael Powell has joined Miami, safety Asa Turner will play for Florida, cornerback Jaivion Green has transferred to Stanford and cornerback Jabbar Muhammad is headed to Oregon.

Oklahoma has walk-on running back Emeka Megwa on its roster, with the Texan previously receiving a UW scholarship, tearing up his knee as a high school player and spending six months in Montlake rehabilitating but never playing.
